Lab-grown "bodyoids" could transform medical research and organ transplants, but raise ethical questions about defining human life.

Scientists are exploring the possibility of cultivating spare human bodies to serve as a source of organs for transplant, aiming to revolutionize medical treatments for severe injuries and diseases. This concept, discussed at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) annual meeting, involves growing human organs in pigs by introducing human stem cells into pig embryos, a process known as blastocyst complementation. The goal is to address the critical shortage of organs available for transplant, potentially saving countless lives. Ethical concerns and technical challenges remain significant hurdles, but the potential benefits of this approach have sparked interest and debate within the scientific community.
