India's deep-sea manned vehicle debut in 2025: A milestone for science and blue economy
- Beyond its scientific value, the project is also a key element in strengthening India's blue economy, contributing to both national security and economic growth. The DSMV represents a significant technological achievement.
India's ambitious deep-sea exploration project, the Samudrayaan mission, is set to make its debut in 2025 with the launch of a manned submersible capable of reaching depths of 6,000 meters. This initiative, led by the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), aims to explore the ocean's depths for scientific research and to bolster the blue economy. The submersible, named Matsya 6000, will allow three occupants to study deep-sea resources, marine biodiversity, and potentially unlock new avenues for economic growth through sustainable use of ocean resources. The mission not only signifies India's growing prowess in marine technology but also aligns with global efforts to understand and utilize the ocean's vast potential, contributing to both scientific knowledge and economic development.
