NASA has unveiled a stunning image of a star cluster in the Milky Way that resembles a Christmas tree, located about 2,500 light-years away in the constellation of NGC 2264. This cluster, known as the "Christmas Tree Cluster," features young stars, some of which are just a few million years old, emitting X-rays that are depicted as twinkling lights on the tree. The image was captured using data from NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory and the National Science Foundation's WIYN 0.9-meter telescope, with the stars' colors and brightness adjusted to enhance the festive appearance. The cluster's base is adorned with green nebulosity, adding to the holiday imagery, and the stars' X-ray emissions are shown in various colors, creating a vibrant, festive scene in space.
