  • A newly developed high-pressure turbine (HPT) upgrade kit to increase CFM Leap 1A time-on-wing has been cleared for use after receiving FAA and European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) certification.

The CFM International Leap-1A and Leap-1B engines have received certification from the FAA and EASA for a durability upgrade aimed at enhancing the longevity and reliability of the engines. This upgrade, known as the Block 1B configuration, includes modifications to the high-pressure turbine (HPT) and low-pressure turbine (LPT) blades, as well as improvements to the combustor and other components to better withstand the harsh conditions of short-haul operations. These enhancements are designed to reduce maintenance costs and extend time on wing, addressing issues like hot corrosion and erosion, which are particularly prevalent in regions with high dust and sand content in the air. The certification allows airlines to incorporate these upgrades into their existing Leap engines, thereby improving operational efficiency and reducing the frequency of shop visits.
