Kennesaw State students leverage smartphone images, artificial intelligence to assess food nutritional information

Kennesaw State University student, Ananya Karthik, has developed an innovative method to assess the nutritional content of food using smartphone images and artificial intelligence. Her project, which began as a high school science fair entry, utilizes a smartphone app to capture images of meals, which are then analyzed by AI to estimate nutritional values like calories, fats, and proteins. This technology aims to help individuals make healthier eating choices by providing instant nutritional feedback. Karthik's work has garnered attention, leading to her presenting at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair and receiving a $5,000 grant from the American Heart Association to further develop her project. Her approach not only simplifies the process of tracking nutrition but also promotes healthier dietary habits through technology.
