Scalable Display Technologies Chosen by VDC Display Systems for U.S. Navy Aegis Program
Contract Represents Largest Channel Order for the Military Market in Company History
CAMBRIDGE, MA--(Marketwire - Nov 22, 2011) - Scalable Display Technologies, a leading provider of software for multi mega-pixel displays, today announced that VDC Display Systems, a division of Video Display Corporation (
VDCDS, which specializes in the design and manufacturing of projection based systems for simulation and training, was tasked by Lockheed Martin to develop the MMD system for deployment in the Combat Information Centers on-board Aegis destroyers as well as in the labs of the Aegis Ashore program. The objective of the program was to provide a single continuous display of resolution far exceeding HD in an easily maintained and robust configuration. The visual system was required to meet U.S. Naval MIL specifications for shipboard operation and safety.
The challenging environments presented by U.S. Naval applications resulted in the utilization of VDCDS ruggedized LED Marquee SSL7000HD Projectors that are custom high resolution cameras plus Scalable auto-calibration solution tailored for a Linux based system.
"Our partnership with Scalable has been great. Pairing our projectors and system design capabilities with Scalable's software approach to multi mega-pixel displays and innovative team has opened up new market opportunities," said Marcial Vidal, President of VDC Display Systems. "The Aegis program is a great example of how Scalable in partnership with VDC Display Systems are changing the limits of what's possible in ultra high resolution visual systems."
The MMD System consists of four VDCDS ruggedized LED Marquee SSL7000HD, a pair of high resolution cameras for calibration, and a customized version of Scalable Display's patented EasyBlend software. The application has been "Scalable Enabled" through Scalable's SDK. The projectors were configured in a 1x4 layout for a Quad-HD seamless 42" high by 267"wide (3.5' x 23') wall.
"We at Scalable are gratified to have been selected as the calibration technology for this program, and to have the opportunity to support our sailors," said Andrew Jamison, CEO of Scalable Display Technologies. "The inclusion of our system in this program is a prime example of the growing need for multi-megapixel display solutions in which Scalable plays a critical role."
Scalable Display Technologies will be showcasing at the I/ITSEC show, November 28 - December 1 in Orlando, Florida. Booth #2953.
