SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - December 9, 2009) - [ Riverbed Technology ] (NASDAQ: [ RVBD ]), the IT infrastructure performance company for networks, applications and storage, today announced its participation at the [ National Guard Bureau Joint Information Technology Conference (NGBC) ] taking place December 7-10 at the Disney's Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, FL. The purpose of NGBC is to bring Army National Guard and Air National Guard Information Technology professionals together to review the various IT structures within, and related to, the National Guard's dual role (state and federal) and discuss opportunities for integrated solutions. Attendees can visit Riverbed® at booth #1019 to learn how the company's wide area network (WAN) optimization solutions are deployed to speed communications and improve collaboration and operational efficiency.

The National Guard requires fast communications connections in order to protect life and property and preserve the peace, order and public safety, regardless of the operating conditions, at both national and local levels. Both federal and state agencies can use Riverbed [ WAN optimization solutions ] to achieve bandwidth optimization resulting in greater application performance across the WAN that ensures users in the field have fast access to critical information. Riverbed WAN optimization solutions, including the [ Steelhead® appliance ] and [ Steelhead Mobile ], allow federal agencies to overcome data transfer challenges associated with WANs in order to deliver reliable and fast communication connections during local and state-wide disasters or emergencies. Steelhead appliances can remove large amounts of repetitive data from the WAN, dramatically reducing bandwidth requirements typically associated with transmitting data. The result, faster replication while utilizing less WAN bandwidth, means that [ disaster recovery ] capabilities, for both backup and recovery, that are critical for "continuity of operations planning" (COOP), are enhanced. Riverbed WAN optimization solutions can also improve communications across satellite networks, which are subjected to a harsh array of environmental and operational conditions that can drastically impair the performance of the network. Riverbed alleviates challenges associated with accessing critical data by addressing limited bandwidth, TCP behavior, and application-protocol inefficiencies that affect satellite-based WANs.

Additionally, Riverbed recently successfully completed rigorous assessment by the Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC). [ JITC ], a military organization under the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) and the Department of Defense (DoD), conducts security and interoperability testing of national security systems and information technology systems hardware, software and components.

To learn more about Riverbed WAN optimization solutions, conference-goers can visit Riverbed on the NGBC 2009 show floor.
