SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwire - June 22, 2009) - American Technology Corporation (ATC) (NASDAQ: [ ATCO ]), a leading provider of directed sound products and technologies, announced today it has been awarded a $675,000 Long Range Acoustic Device 300X™ order from the U.S. Army's Rapid Equipping Force (REF) for Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles and base perimeter security installations in Afghanistan. The mission of the REF is to equip operational commanders with commercial-off-the-shelf and government-off-the-shelf solutions to increase effectiveness, reduce risk and insert future force technologies and surrogates to validate concepts and speed capabilities to U.S. Army forces.

The LRAD 300X is the latest addition to ATC's proprietary LRAD product line, which also includes the LRAD 100X™, 500X™, 1000X™ and the remotely operated LRAD-RX™. The 300X is a compact, lightweight solution for use on military and armored vehicles, common remote-operated weapon systems, and small vessels. It can be easily transported to provide security personnel long-range communications and a highly effective acoustic hailing device (AHD) capability where needed. It can communicate in excess of 1500 meters depending on local terrain and environment. LRAD 300X operators have the ability to issue multi-lingual, clear, authoritative verbal commands, followed by powerful deterrent tones to influence the behavior of targeted threats.

"LRAD 300X gives our soldiers the ability to rapidly transition through escalation of force requirements while quickly identifying hostile threats," remarked Scott Stuckey, ATC's vice president of business development. "Our LRAD systems can also help reduce civilian and military casualties by enabling soldiers and sailors to communicate from the safety of their vehicles and ships and diffuse situations before they become deadly."

"We attribute this award to our efforts in developing a series of AHD systems that meet the rigorous specifications of our military customers," commented Tom Brown, president and CEO of ATC. "We received input on the design requirements for the 300X from military organizations who have an increasing need for LRAD's unique capabilities to determine intent, create large safety zones, resolve uncertain situations, and potentially save lives on both sides of the device."
