A new molecule, 3-(trifluoromethyl)anilinium iodide (TMA), has been developed to enhance the performance of perovskite solar cells, as reported in a study published in the journal Science. TMA acts as an additive that improves the efficiency and stability of these solar cells by optimizing the crystallization process of the perovskite material, leading to fewer defects and better charge transport. The modified perovskite solar cells achieved a power conversion efficiency of 24.8% and maintained 96% of their initial efficiency after 1,200 hours of continuous operation, showcasing significant improvements over traditional perovskite solar cells. This advancement brings perovskite solar cells closer to commercial viability, offering a promising alternative to silicon-based solar technologies.
