Researchers at the University of Michigan have made a significant breakthrough in solar technology by discovering a new material that could enhance the efficiency of solar cells. This material, a type of perovskite, exhibits an unusual property where it can convert light into electricity more effectively than traditional materials. The key finding is that this perovskite can absorb light and then re-emit it at a different wavelength, which is then reabsorbed by the solar cell, effectively recycling the energy. This phenomenon, known as photon recycling, could potentially increase the efficiency of solar panels beyond the current theoretical limits.
