The White House revealed details of Trump's budget request to Congress Friday—though defense spending will increase.

In a proposed 2026 budget, former President Donald Trump aims to cut $163 billion from various federal programs, targeting significant reductions in funding for science, the IRS, the EPA, energy initiatives, and subsidies for low-income families. The budget plan includes a 30% cut to the Environmental Protection Agency's budget, reducing it to $6.1 billion, and a 14% reduction for the Department of Energy, bringing its budget to $31.7 billion. Additionally, the National Institutes of Health would see a 20% cut, dropping to $32 billion, while the IRS would face a 25% budget slash to $10.4 billion. Trump's proposal also seeks to eliminate the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and reduce funding for other social safety net programs, reflecting his administration's focus on reducing government spending and regulatory oversight.
