Signalling a commitment to research and development, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday allocated Rs 20,000 crore to the Department of Science and Technology as a corpus for a fund to promote private sector-driven innovation.

The Indian government has allocated Rs 20,000 crore to the Department of Science and Technology in the 2025 Budget to establish a research fund aimed at fostering innovation and scientific advancement. This initiative, announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, seeks to enhance India's research capabilities, support startups, and promote collaborations between academia and industry.
