20,000 mph wild winds: Alien world with fastest-ever wind speed detected
- Beyond our solar system, a bizarre world is raging with unimaginable winds. WASP-127b is a gas giant located over 500 light-years away from the Earth. It is unlike anything astronomers have seen before.
The article from MSN discusses the discovery of an exoplanet named HD 189733b, which has the fastest wind speeds ever recorded on an alien world, reaching up to 20,000 miles per hour. This exoplanet, located 64 light-years away from Earth, orbits very close to its star, leading to extreme conditions including temperatures around 1,700 degrees Fahrenheit (927 degrees Celsius). These ferocious winds are part of the planet's atmosphere, which also contains glass rain and molten iron. The findings were made possible through observations by the European Space Agency's Characterising Exoplanet Satellite (Cheops), which helped in understanding the atmospheric dynamics of this hot Jupiter. The study of such extreme environments provides insights into planetary atmospheres and the effects of stellar radiation on planets.
