Chinese astronauts install debris shields on Tiangong space station during 8.5-hour spacewalk (video)

  • Two Chinese astronauts completed an 8.5-hour spacewalk on Jan. 20, a sojourn that installed debris shielding outside the Tiangong space station.

During an 8.5-hour spacewalk, Chinese astronauts Jing Haipeng and Zhu Yangzhu successfully installed debris shields on the Tiangong space station to protect it from space debris. This spacewalk, which took place on March 2, 2023, was part of ongoing efforts to maintain and upgrade the station. The astronauts also conducted other maintenance tasks, including the installation of foot restraints and an inter-module connecting device. The spacewalk was broadcast live, showcasing the astronauts' activities in real-time, highlighting China's growing capabilities in space exploration and station management.
