Gov. Ron DeSantis spoke of the potential move Wednesday during his remarks spotlighting the launch of the Florida University Space Research Consortium.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has proposed relocating NASA's headquarters from Washington, D.C., to the Kennedy Space Center in Brevard County, Florida. This suggestion was made during a speech at the Space Coast Economic Development Commission's luncheon, where DeSantis highlighted the benefits of having NASA's operations closer to where much of the space activity actually takes place. He argued that moving the headquarters would enhance efficiency, reduce bureaucratic overhead, and better align NASA's administrative functions with its operational activities. DeSantis also mentioned that this move could potentially save costs and foster a more dynamic interaction between NASA's leadership and the space industry workforce. However, he acknowledged that such a move would require Congressional approval, as NASA's location is currently mandated by law to be in Washington, D.C.
