Riverbed to Demonstrate IT Performance Solutions at TechNet Land Forces Southwest Conference

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - Mar 27, 2012) - [ Riverbed Technology ] (NASDAQ: [ RVBD ]), the performance company, today announced its participation at the TechNet Land Forces Southwest Conference -- Network Security and Operations, taking place March 27-29 at the Tucson Convention Center in Tucson, AZ. The TechNet Land Forces Conference, formerly known as LandWarNet, is the premier forum for land-based armed services, such as the Army and Marine Corps, to openly converse about IT solutions, best practices, and defense initiatives. The Riverbed® performance platform is leveraged by [ government ] and defense agencies to analyze, accelerate and control the performance of applications across the wide area network (WAN), including satellite communications.

Organizations worldwide are using the Riverbed performance platform, a broad suite of performance solutions, spanning [ WAN optimization ], [ edge virtual server infrastructure (edge-VSI) ], application-aware [ NPM ], [ application delivery ], web content optimization ([ WCO ]), and [ cloud data protection ] for backup and [ disaster recovery ] (DR). As IT organizations embark on strategic initiatives to [ virtualize, consolidate ] and migrate workloads into cloud environments, users are moved farther from their data, and slow applications, file transfers and inefficient websites negatively impact the performance of these initiatives. The Riverbed performance platform provides organizations with the solutions they need to overcome performance issues and tools to analyze, optimize and consolidate their IT infrastructure. Visitors to the booth (#120) can learn how the Riverbed performance platform increases visibility and control in support of major IT initiatives so that organizations can improve productivity and efficiency, while enhancing business resilience and [ controlling costs ].

Addressing Security and Governance Challenges by Gaining Visibility
Riverbed Cascade®, an application-aware network performance monitoring (NPM) solution, and [ Steelhead® ] WAN optimization solutions enable defense agencies to address security and governance challenges. Cascade's capabilities of network visibility and behavioral analytics help supplement traditional perimeter-based security solutions such as firewalls and intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), can assist in forensic audits and can protect against advanced persistent threats (APT), targeted malware, fraud, and espionage. Cascade's capability to collect and analyze network packet data to identify changes in network behavior assists the defense community in detecting and mitigating network performance, security and compliance events. The recent release of [ Cascade 9.5 ] extends visibility into performance and security even-within virtualized data centers and data centers that use load balancing application delivery controllers (ADCs), such as F5 Local Traffic Manager, Riverbed® Stingray™ Traffic Manager, and others.

Accelerating Satellite Communication
To further enable secure and accelerated access to data and applications, many government organizations utilize SkipWare® functionality within the [ Riverbed Optimization System (RiOS®) ], the software platform that powers Steelhead appliances. SkipWare is the leading Space Communications Protocol Standards (SCPS) implementation and is used for high-stressed and bandwidth constrained networks such as satellite networks, which are used by many defense agencies due to terrain and bandwidth restrictions. SkipWare is satellite-specific TCP-layer acceleration, providing organizations with the same level of optimization as local links. By running SkipWare on RiOS customers obtain the combination of Riverbed WAN optimization technology and SkipWare within a central location allowing customers to utilize either capability or both when necessary.

Improving Performance and Security of Web-based Applications
While Riverbed WAN optimization solutions help geographically dispersed personnel to accelerate mission critical data, the Riverbed Stingray™ family delivers reliability, scalability, performance, and security to Web-based applications, further enabling collaboration amongst defense agencies and civilian personnel. [ Stingray Aptimizer ] accelerates Web-based applications such as Microsoft SharePoint by optimizing web content to deliver performance across networks and devices. Defense agencies can efficiently manage workloads by prioritizing different categories of users and scaling web and application infrastructure during peaks with [ Stingray Traffic Manager ], which increases productivity and collaboration. Web-based applications which host classified information need a comprehensive security solution. [ Stingray Web Application Firewall ] proactively secures applications by establishing a secure session identifier, proactively encrypts cookies and URLs, and applies site usage enforcement, ensuring a secure perimeter around the application, decreasing the vulnerability of the application to security attacks.
