Miranda Technologies Inc. (TSX:MT), a worldwide provider of infrastructure, playout and monitoring systems for the television broadcast, cable, satellite and IPTV industry successfully added a new channel to a leading broadcaster's service only three days after the station placed an order.

Satellite Telecommunications Network (STN), the leading satellite service in Slovenia, already had nine channels on air using the Miranda iTX automated playout platform and saw an opportunity in the market to extend its offering. On February 20, STN placed an order for another channel from Miranda, and on the 23rd, it was up and running.

"When we first selected iTX a year ago, we appreciated not only the convenience of a compact, file-based solution, but also that it was a highly scalable platform that would allow us to be extremely agile as a business," said Mitja Lovsin, managing director of STN. "At that time we predicted we would be able to add services in just a few days, and that is exactly what we have done with this latest channel addition. The Miranda team proved to be great partners in this project, and we continue to be delighted with the choice we made in iTX."

At its state of the art playout facility in Dob pri Domzalah in Slovenia, STN uses a compact iTX installation for its originated channels. The playout engines are linked to Miranda Vertigo XG graphics processors for automated, multi-level graphics, driven not only from internal metadata but from interactive external feeds including RSS and SMS. The installation also allows for simultaneous playout and recording of channels for time-shifted transmissions.

"STN is a hugely efficient operation driven by the expectations of its subscribers," said Micky Edwards, Miranda's VP Sales, EMEA. "They chose Miranda as their technology partner because we demonstrated we could deliver turnkey solutions that met their business and operational needs. In this case, they identified a requirement for an additional channel, and we helped them get that to market in an incredibly short time.

"Getting a new channel on air in just a few days is headline news in the traditional broadcast environment," he added, "but it is a core part of iTX and Miranda's solutions-based approach."
