Proxim Wireless Enables Mobile Wireless Video Surveillance Network on Tram System
TsunamiTM MP.11 Products Enable Tenerife Tram System to Enhance On-Board and Wayside Security
SILICON VALLEY, CA--(Marketwire - Oct 17, 2011) - Proxim Wireless Corporation (
MTSA deployed the wireless video surveillance network to enhance security and emergency response on board trains and at its stations. The system's 26 trams travel at speeds of up to 60 km/h while traversing 15 km of track passing through tunnels, tight curves, and narrow streets. Construction constraints, associated costs, and the potential of service interruptions with the system's route precluded deploying a solution that would have required cabling or trenching. Proxim's Tsunami MP.11 series subscriber and base station units were rapidly and cost-effectively deployed to address those challenges. Advantages to utilizing Proxim Wireless' video backhaul solutions include low capital and operational costs, high-reliability, and ease of installation.
"The safety of travelers and public infrastructure is a top concern for governments and transit system operators around the globe," explained Ramon Lumnitz, Vice President of European and African Sales for Proxim Wireless. "Employing wireless solutions like the Tsunami MP.11 allow agencies such as Metropolitano de Tenerife to respond quickly and cost-effectively to these concerns."
In addition to on-board video surveillance, the Proxim solution enables MTSA to download on-board fare box information and also acts as a redundant source of train positioning data. All video feeds are streamed in real-time back to a central monitoring center. The solution included 70 base stations and 26 subscriber units configured for unlicensed band operation.
