Dr. Saxe will discuss how USB tunneling is used to optimize battery life and sideloading performance. The constraint on pin count for mobile system on chips, or SoCs, is driving the adoption of serial interface standards such as USB. Initially, the adoption of these standards results in an increase in design complexity, but with the appropriate architecture and support, these standards can reduce overall system complexity. Dr. Saxe's presentation addresses the challenges and solutions faced in a typical design to make effective use of USB as a primary interface to a mobile processor.
