Wave Chief Scientist Named a Finalist for EE Times ACE Innovator of the Year Award
LEE, MA--(Marketwire - April 5, 2011) - Wave Systems Corp. (
The five finalists for Innovator of the Year include leaders from Adapteva, Cirrus Logic, Intel, and NuPGA Corporation. Dr. Thibadeau was nominated in recognition of his contribution to the security industry through the development of the self-encrypting hard drive (SED).
Now available from all major drive manufacturers, SEDs provide unparalleled encryption by keeping keys safe in the drive, thus preventing the possibility of unauthorized access to data through software attacks. Additional advantages over software encryption are drastic reductions in installation time and end-user impact. SEDs eliminate drag on the operating system and provide seamless full-disk encryption. Proper management tools provide the enterprise with secure audit logs for regulatory compliance, centralized remote management and instant cryptographic erase for wiping a drive in seconds. These capabilities offer a significant increase in security, while simultaneously proving more cost- and time-efficient than software-only solutions.
The "Innovator of the Year" award is presented to individuals who have "brought leadership, creativity and out-of-the-box thinking to technology, a product or business." The ACE award winners are chosen by a judging panel comprised of the leading voices in academia, industry and Wall Street executives. Dr. Thibadeau developed several core specifications for SEDs, and was the original patent holder. As a member of the Trusted Computing Group's Storage Work Group, he helped create the Opal open industry standard for the SED. He is a co-author of the American Bar Association's [ Data Breach and Encryption Handbook ], published in February.
