HERNDON, Va., Oct. 5 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The [ Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC) ], the largest technology council in the nation, announced today that [ John Chambers ], Chairman and CEO of [ Cisco Systems, Inc. ] (NASDAQ: CSCO) will deliver the keynote at this year's TechCelebration banquet on October 19 at The Ritz-Carlton in Tysons Corner. Since joining the company in 1991 and assuming the role of CEO in 1995, Chambers has grown Cisco into a $40 billion dollar company and received numerous awards for his corporate leadership and philanthropic endeavors. In addition, he served on President George W. Bush's National Infrastructure Advisory Council (NIAC), Education Committee and the Transition Team, as well as President Bill Clinton's Trade Policy Committee.

Receiving this year's prestigious Chairman's Award is former NVTC Chair [ Dan Bannister ], in recognition of his exemplary service to the Northern Virginia technology business community as well as his civic accomplishments, including his role as a founder of NVTC's [ Equal Footing Foundation (EFF) ], which supports computer clubhouses for underserved youth in Fairfax and Fauquier Counties. Presenting the award to Bannister will be all the former NVTC Chairs.

During the event, nominees will be honored and finalists and winners will be announced for the first-ever NVTC/Washington Technology [ Government Contractor CTO Innovator Awards ]. This new program recognizes chief technology officers within the region's government contracting community for their critical contributions to achieving results for their customers and their leadership within their own companies. In addition, NVTC will recognize the nominees and announce the finalists and winners of the 2010 [ NVTC Green Awards ]. Now in its second year, this award honors local technology companies, universities and organizations, who are making an impact on our region through top-notch green practices.
