  • Thus the modern transhumanist/posthumanist worldview is religious. It is a counterfeit religion of course, but it is nonetheless winning over millions of converts to its creed. Many have spoken of this reality in recent times. Let me briefly cite two such voices.

The article by Bill Muehlenberg titled "Technology, Transhumanism, and Religion" explores the intersection of advanced technology, the transhumanist movement, and its implications for religion and human identity. Muehlenberg discusses how transhumanism, which seeks to enhance human capabilities through technology, challenges traditional religious views on the sanctity of human life and the natural order. He critiques the transhumanist vision of transcending human limitations through technologies like genetic engineering, AI, and cybernetics, suggesting that these advancements could lead to a form of secular salvation or even a new religion where technology replaces or redefines spiritual experiences. Muehlenberg expresses concerns about the ethical, moral, and spiritual ramifications of such a shift, questioning whether transhumanism might lead to a loss of what it means to be human, potentially creating a divide between enhanced and unenhanced individuals, and ultimately altering the essence of human existence and spirituality. He calls for a critical examination of these technologies from a religious and ethical standpoint, emphasizing the need to preserve human dignity and the divine purpose of life as traditionally understood.
