The state of Michigan is financially backing an innovative idea that has spun out of the University of Michigan.

The article from MLive discusses Fibarcode, a new startup spun out of the University of Michigan, which aims to revolutionize fabric recycling by addressing the challenges in sorting and recycling textiles. Traditional recycling methods struggle with mixed materials in clothing, but Fibarcode has developed a technology that uses a special fiber with a unique barcode-like signature, allowing for easy identification and sorting of different fabric types. This innovation could significantly enhance the efficiency of recycling processes, reduce waste, and promote a circular economy in the fashion industry. The company, founded by U-M researchers, has already received a $100,000 grant from the university's Innovation Partnerships to further develop their technology.
