Colossal Biosciences, a company focused on de-extinction, has raised $200 million to fund its ambitious project to bring back extinct species, including the dodo. The company aims to use advanced genetic technologies to recreate these animals, with the dodo being one of the first targets due to its iconic status and the availability of genetic material. This funding will support research into gene editing, cloning, and the development of artificial wombs to nurture the revived species. Beyond the dodo, Colossal is also working on projects to resurrect the woolly mammoth and the Tasmanian tiger, aiming to restore ecological balance and biodiversity.
