Dr. Mary Maris, an AP Chemistry teacher at Little Rock Central High School, has been honored with the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST), the highest recognition for K-12 STEM educators in the United States. This prestigious award, which comes with a $10,000 grant from the National Science Foundation, recognizes her outstanding contributions to STEM education. Dr. Maris was celebrated for her innovative teaching methods and her ability to inspire students, as highlighted by her former student, now a colleague, who praised her for making chemistry accessible and engaging. The award was presented by President Joe Biden, acknowledging her significant impact on education.
