  • Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer announced Wednesday that the federal government and Albany NanoTech had reached a final agreement to lock in nearly a billion dollars for a computer chip research center at the Albany lab which comprises one-third of the country's National Semiconductor Technology Center.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced a significant investment of $825 million for the Albany NanoTech Complex, aimed at enhancing U.S. semiconductor research and development. This funding, part of the CHIPS and Science Act, will support the construction of a new facility at the University at Albany's College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering. The new lab will focus on advancing semiconductor technology, crucial for national security and economic competitiveness. Schumer highlighted that this investment will not only bolster New York's role in the global tech industry but also create jobs and foster innovation in chip technology, positioning the U.S. to lead in the next generation of semiconductor manufacturing.
