  • In a significant move, the US removed restrictions on 3 Indian nuclear entities, over a week after NSA Jake Sullivan announced that Washington was finalising steps to "remove" hurdles for civil nuclear partnership between Indian and American firms.

The United States has lifted restrictions on three Indian nuclear power plants, allowing them to access American technology and equipment. This decision, announced by the US Department of Energy, affects the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) facilities at Kudankulam, Kakrapar, and Tarapur. The move is seen as a step towards enhancing nuclear cooperation between the US and India, reflecting the strategic partnership outlined in the 2008 US-India Civil Nuclear Agreement. The removal of these entities from the US export control list signifies a recognition of India's commitment to nuclear non-proliferation and aims to facilitate the expansion of India's nuclear energy sector.
