Blue Origin successfully launches New Glenn rocket
- Blue Origin officials hope to send their heavy-lift New Glenn rocket on its unmanned maiden voyage into space after 1 a.m. EST, with the mission's goal being to reach orbit before returning to Earth.
Blue Origin, the aerospace company founded by Jeff Bezos, has announced that its New Glenn rocket is scheduled for its first launch in August 2025. This significant milestone will see the rocket lift off from Launch Complex 36 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. The New Glenn rocket, named after astronaut John Glenn, is designed to be reusable and capable of carrying both crew and cargo to Earth orbit, the Moon, and beyond. The upcoming mission will include the deployment of satellites for various clients, including Amazon's Project Kuiper, which aims to provide global broadband coverage. This launch marks a critical step in Blue Origin's competition with SpaceX in the commercial spaceflight industry, aiming to reduce the cost of access to space through reusability.
