The initiative involves using AI to detect and remove pirated content from the internet, focusing on unauthorized uploads of anime episodes and manga chapters. This AI system not only identifies pirated material but also helps in tracking down the sources of these leaks, which often occur even before official releases. The Content Overseas Distribution Association (CODA) has been at the forefront of this effort, collaborating with tech companies to develop sophisticated algorithms that can differentiate between legal and illegal content. This move is part of a broader strategy to protect intellectual property rights and ensure that creators and publishers receive due compensation for their work, thereby supporting the sustainability of the anime and manga industries.
