11 districts at very high risk of flood, drought: Study

A recent study by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) has identified 11 districts in India as being at "very high risk" of both flooding and drought, highlighting the dual threat of climate change impacts. These districts, spread across states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal, face significant challenges due to their vulnerability to both excessive rainfall leading to floods and prolonged dry spells causing droughts. The study underscores the need for integrated water management strategies to mitigate these risks, pointing out that these districts are not only prone to natural disasters but also suffer from inadequate infrastructure and planning to manage water resources effectively. The findings call for urgent policy interventions to enhance resilience against these climate extremes, ensuring sustainable water security for the affected populations.
