  • The U.S. Supreme Court refused Monday to hear a case alleging schools in Boston discriminate against Asian American and White students, reports NBC News. The lawsuit involving Boston's elite high schools marks the second time in recent months the conservative Supreme Court declined an opportunity to further restrict programs designed to increase diversity in education.

The Supreme Court has declined to hear a case involving allegations of racial discrimination at a Virginia high school, thereby leaving intact a lower court's decision. The case centered around a white student who claimed he was subjected to racial slurs and physical intimidation by Black students at his school, with the school administration allegedly failing to address the issue adequately. The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals had previously ruled that the student's claims did not meet the legal threshold for racial discrimination under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, which prohibits discrimination based on race in programs receiving federal financial assistance. By not taking up the case, the Supreme Court has effectively upheld the lower court's ruling, maintaining the current legal standards for what constitutes actionable racial discrimination in schools.
