The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Anglo American have initiated a research project under the Atoms4Food Partnership to enhance food security and agricultural productivity in Africa. This project, titled "Enhancing Crop Nutrition and Soil Health through Nuclear Techniques," focuses on using nuclear technology to improve soil fertility and crop nutrition, particularly in Zambia and South Africa. The initiative aims to address challenges like soil degradation and nutrient depletion by employing isotopic techniques to study nutrient uptake and soil health. This collaboration seeks to develop sustainable agricultural practices that can increase crop yields, improve food quality, and support the livelihoods of smallholder farmers, thereby contributing to the broader goals of food security and sustainable development in the region.
