What to know about the stadium-sized asteroid zooming by Earth Thanksgiving week
- The asteroid is going to safely pass by Earth on Nov. 26, and astronomers say it's one of many near-Earth objects (NEO).
An asteroid named 2023 WV1, approximately 100 feet in size, will safely pass by Earth on November 23, 2023, during Thanksgiving week. This celestial event will see the asteroid coming within 2.2 million miles of our planet, which is relatively close in astronomical terms but still poses no threat. The asteroid was discovered just last week, highlighting the ongoing efforts to track near-Earth objects. NASA has confirmed that there is no risk of impact, and the asteroid will continue its journey through space without any interaction with Earth.
