Reboot America Announces Inaugural Summit and Pitch Event for Startups and Ideas Addressing the Nation's Biggest Challenges

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - Oct 2, 2012) -  Reboot America, a national movement focusing America's leading corporations and emerging startups on innovative solutions to our country's greatest challenges, today announced open registration for its Reboot America Summit, November 8-9, 2012 and a call for applications for its startup and ideas showcase during the event.

Reboot America, created by Startup DC in partnership with the Startup America Partnership and The NYSE Big StartUp, is an initiative to connect large corporations and emerging startup companies across key industries for the purposes of collaboration and partnership. Corporations in verticals like education, health, media, government, and politics will learn about the hottest ideas coming from startups and how they can work together for various reasons, and the startups will learn about the challenges of big business, potentially becoming their partners in new projects and business ventures.

"Connecting corporate America to young growth businesses and entrepreneurs is a powerful combination," said Scott Cutler, Executive Vice President, NYSE Euronext. "By collaboratively engaging in The NYSE Big Startup, everyone stands to benefit. Businesses will engage in productive conversations, new opportunities and ideas will emerge, and new growth and jobs will result."

Reboot America's engagement will happen online and offline during the Reboot America Summit on November 8-9 during the 10,000-attendee Digital Capital Week festival.

"Reboot America is proof of what can be accomplished when strong local startup communities are in place," said Donna Harris, managing director at Startup America. "Startups from across the entire country will benefit tremendously from the collaboration with larger companies that will take place with this initiative."

Reboot America, sponsored by [ Microsoft ] and [ Verizon ], will also give startups novel opportunities to network with each other and discuss innovative solutions to further the growth of businesses in America. Specific areas of focus during Reboot America Summit will be:

  • Democracy (media, advocacy, and politics)
  • National Challenges (education, health, and energy)
  • Government and Security (federal, state and local government, national security, homeland security, and cyber security)

The startup and ideas showcase during the event will host the best companies and ideas in these areas. Companies and thought leaders can apply to compete for a spot in the showcase on the Reboot America Summit site: [ www.rebootamerica.org ].

"Reboot America is a critical initiative for the US economy and aligns directly with Microsoft's commitment to provide startups and early stage companies the resources they need to succeed," said Dan Kasun, Senior Director of Platform Evangelism at Microsoft Public Sector. "Empowering entrepreneurs with technology and support through programs such as Microsoft BizSpark is part of the economic solution that gets completed with strong education, industry and community engagement. Reboot America is providing the structure and catalyst for that engagement, and we are proud to be a sponsor and partner in this initiative."
