MELBOURNE, Fla. & WASHINGTON--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--John Shipley, Ph.D., senior scientist for the Space Systems business of Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), has received the prestigious U.S. National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) Pioneer Award. The award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the discipline of national reconnaissance. It was presented to Dr. Shipley February 3 during a special ceremony at NRO headquarters in Chantilly, Virginia.

Dr. Shipley joined Harris in 1979. During his career, he has received numerous awards and holds 10 patents. In 2000, he was named a Harris Fellow a" the companyas highest recognition for engineering achievement. Dr. Shipley is a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Florida. He received his bacheloras, masteras and doctorate degrees in mechanical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
