Fans urged to bring used cell phones to Aloha Stadium for Saturday's UH vs. New Mexico State game
HONOLULU, Oct. 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The University of Hawai'i and Verizon Wireless are teaming up for the seventh year to help curb domestic violence in Hawai'i. Fans attending the Hawai'i vs. New Mexico State football game on Saturday, October 22 at 6:30 p.m. are urged to bring no-longer-used wireless phones and accessories to the game. Recycled wireless equipment will be used to help survivors of domestic violence through the Verizon Wireless HopeLine® program.
HopeLine drop boxes will be located at the Go Wireless table near gate 4 at Aloha Stadium from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
"Recycling old cell phones through HopeLine is an easy way for people to help curb domestic violence in our communities," said Mark Yamauchi, director of Hawai'i sales for Verizon Wireless. "We ask UH Football fans to help us provide a hope line to survivors."
Through the award-winning HopeLine program, used wireless phones, batteries and accessories from any carrier are recycled, or refurbished and sold. Verizon Wireless uses the proceeds to award grants, plus wireless phones with airtime are provided - free of charge - to non-profit human services and law enforcement agencies to aid survivors of domestic violence.
