Universal Detection Technology Presenting Radiation Detection Equipment at the RISCON Safety and Security Expo in Tokyo

The US Department of Commerce Facilitates Meetings for UNDT With Potential Customers and Interested Parties in Tokyo

TOKYO--(Marketwire - Oct 18, 2011) - [ Universal Detection Technology ] ([ www.udetection.com ]) (OTCBB: [ UNDT ]), a developer of early-warning monitoring technologies that protect against biological, chemical, and [ radiological threats ], announced today that the Company's management is showcasing radiation detection technologies in Tokyo, Japan. UNDT is exhibiting its equipment at the [ RISCON Safety and Security Expo ], a hub for showcasing breakthrough security technologies in Japan.

A recent report has found radiation "hot spots" in Tokyo with levels of radioactive Cesium that in some areas equaled levels from contaminated areas around Chernobyl in Ukraine, the site of a catastrophic nuclear accident in 1986. The results of these tests have led to a growing chorus of scientists and local residents to demand more soil testing and immediate cleanup efforts.

"[ Radioactive substances ] are entering people's bodies from the air and from the food. It's everywhere," said Kiyoshi Toda, a radiation expert at Nagasaki University's faculty of environmental studies, and a medical doctor. "But the government doesn't even try to inform the public how much radiation they're exposed to."

"The reports of the so called 'hot spots' in Tokyo with dangerous levels of radioactive Cesium is very alarming," said Mr. Jacques Tizabi, UNDT's Chairman and CEO. "Our presence in Tokyo has allowed us to deliver much needed detection equipment to the people of Japan. We hope that in the coming months we can expand our reach and market our [ radiation detection systems ] to a variety of Japanese government and private institutions. Being here in Tokyo has given us the opportunity to discuss the situation with our current customers and have a clearer understanding of their needs. Yesterday, with one current customer, we tested detection systems on actual grass from the Fukushima region," he added.

UNDT is displaying the full array of its [ Radiation Detection Devices ]. These include [ dosimeter systems ] used for measurement of cumulative radiation exposures and advanced [ survey meters ] and [ surface monitors ] used in detection of contamination on surfaces and, in particular, food and water. The Company is using various channels in addition to its local representatives to market radiation detection systems. With facilitation from the Japanese mission of the US Department of Commerce, UNDT has been reaching out to local partners who can help increase the Company's sales.
