ANNAPOLIS, MD--(Marketwire - March 30, 2011) - TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. Whitehurst has joined TCS as senior vice president of its Commercial Software Group. In this role, he is responsible for all aspects of the product life cycle including development, delivery and support operations as well as financial oversight and product marketing. He is charged with integrating TCS' wireless data, location, and application technologies to create next-generation commercial offerings.

Mr. Whitehurst has twenty-seven years experience in all phases of executive leadership for global telecommunications companies. As chief operating officer of Movius Interactive, he developed new value-added services for Tier 1 wireless carriers. Prior to Movius, he was president of Tekelec's Switching Solutions Group, where he secured major channel partners, reduced costs and delivered a next-generation converged media gateway. Prior to Tekelec, Mr. Whitehurst was a board member and executive vice president of business development at Axes Technologies. Jay began his career with twenty-two years at Nortel Networks, where he advanced to become executive vice president of wireless global operations where he provided oversight for the delivery and support of a $5 billion business.
