SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - February 18, 2011) - Micrel Inc. (NASDAQ: [ MCRL ]), an industry leader in analog, high bandwidth communications and Ethernet IC solutions, today introduced a new family of triple low dropout regulators (LDOs), the [ MIC5373/83 ]/[ 74/84 ]series. The products feature three 200mA LDOs, an optional fourth LDO output for a real time clock (RTC), integrated power on reset (POR), user-defined voltage monitoring capabilities, adjustable POR delay time and manual reset. Micrel's new 200mA Triple LDO family is designed for the demanding needs of battery powered electronic applications including smart phones, personal navigation devices (PND), portable media players (PMP), digital still cameras (DSC), notebook computers, personal digital assistants (PDA), and other handheld instruments. The MIC5374/84 is the full featured version, which also includes an ultra low quiescent current LDO for powering real time clocks, all in a small 2.5mm x 2.5mm Thin MLF® package. This version is available at $0.45 for 1K quantities. The [ MIC5373/83 ] is available with pricing starting at $0.39 for 1K quantities. Samples can now be ordered on line on Micrel's web site at: [ http://www.micrel.com/ProductList.do ].

"Micrel has one of the industry's broadest portfolios of low dropout linear regulators, and to meet expanding customer needs, we are adding the industry's smallest family of system power LDOs in a 2.5 x 2.5mm thin MLF® package," noted Andy Khayat, director of Micrel's Analog Marketing. "This new family of ICs minimizes board space in today's multi-rail power supply designs, thereby saving valuable space and cost in portable devices."

As a market leader in portable power innovation, Micrel continues to drive the forefront of portable power technologies by developing products with high integration, lowest power and the smallest packaging solutions on the market. This product line's combination of high integration, high performance and low power consumption makes this family of devices suitable for a broad range of applications in the portable market space. The [ MIC5374/84 ] offers designers a distinctive mix of system power management features that combines ultra low quiescent current, 8µA, real time clock support, fast transient response of 40 mV while maintaining low noise and a high power supply rejection ratio (PSRR) for powering sensitive RF circuitry like GPS. The [ MIC537x ] family is a µCap LDO design operating with very small ceramic output capacitors, which additionally reduces required board space. This series offers full protection circuitry including current limit and thermal shutdown protection, and an operating junction temperature range of -40degC to 125degC.
