BURLINGTON, ON, Nov. 29 /CNW/ - IPICO Inc. (TSX-V: RFD) ("IPICO") announced today that the International Standards Organisation (ISO) has now published a revision of ISO18000-6, the open air interface standard for global passive RFID item level management.

ISO18000-6 "Parameters for Air Interface Communications at 860 to 960 MHz" now includes Type-D, which is an enhanced version of IPICO's IP-X communication protocol, commercially known as "TOTAL" (Tag Only Talks After Listening). This communication protocol allows IP-X TOTAL compliant chips, tags and readers to work in harmony with any ISO 18000-6 compliant products including EPC Gen2 products while maintaining most of the advantages inherent in IP-X solutions particularly for tracking fast moving objects supporting passive UHF electronic vehicle identification (EVI), tracking and management solutions.

IPICO's IP-X based UHF X9 chip was launched in 2009 and is the first TOTAL compliant chip. IPICO is utilizing these ISO compliant X9 chips, tags and readers in current installations of electronic vehicle tracking systems in China, UK, North Africa and India, as well as railway management solutions in Europe. IPICO believes that acceptance of IP-X TOTAL by the International Standards Organization will accelerate regional and national adoption of this technology based on the cost effectiveness and enhanced performance of passive UHF TOTAL compliant solutions. ISO 18000-6D demonstrates IPICO's continuing commitment to the development of open global standard solutions in parallel to its proprietary protocol based product offerings."

"After a number of years of working with the ISO community, we are very excited that this standard has finally been published. The acceptance of IPICO's air interface communication protocol on its technical merits by the ISO community represents a very important milestone for IPICO" commented Gordon Westwater, President and CEO of IPICO. "With a growing installation base in several developing countries IPICO has successfully deployed its UHF Electronic Vehicle Identification and Rail solutions in very tough and demanding operating environments. Having this passive UHF RFID technology ISO compliant will give greater assurance to our current and future customers, particularly those involved in large scale deployments."

IPICO's TOTAL compliant chips, tags and readers (ISO 18000-6 Type-D) will function alongside Reader Talk First Systems (ISO 18000-6 Type B and C) and are designed to outperform other 18000-6 systems in high speed, dense tag/reader environments. IP-X TOTAL was co-developed by IPICO and EM Microelectronic, IPICO's development and manufacturing partner for RFID chips. As an ISO standard, IP-X TOTAL IP will be made available to the user/development community under RAND royalty terms.
