National Art Education Campaign Inspires Hundreds of Thousands of Teens to Save Art in Schools

PALO ALTO, Calif.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Hundreds of thousands of students nationwide showed their support for art education this back-to-school season as part of the aMake Art. Save Art.a design campaign sponsored by HP (NYSE:HPQ), teen not-for-profit DoSomething.org and AMD.

The three organizations today announced the results of the campaign, which encouraged young people to showcase their artistic talents and passion for art by submitting PC wallpaper designs and a short essay on what art education means to them.

Throughout the eight-week campaign, which launched Aug. 1, teens submitted more than 2,700 designs and shared their favorites with their social networks through Facebook and Twitter, as well as with their state legislators. The designs were shared more than 300,000 times.

The most-shared designs were then considered by a panel of celebrity and expert judges, including Emmy-winning aSo You Think You Can Dancea costume designer Soyon An and NBCa™s aCommunitya actress Yvette Nicole Brown. Five finalists were selected to receive [ HP Pavilion dv6z notebook PCs ] with VISION Technology from AMD. The grand prize winner, Kathy Simonetta, will receive a $5,000 grant for her school art program, a $1,000 college scholarship and five HP Pavilion dv6z notebooks for use in her schoola™s art room.
