AT&T and Western Governors University Launch New Scholarship Program for Native American Community Members

AT&T Foundation Funds 30 Scholarships at [ Online University ]

SALT LAKE CITY, Oct. 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Online, non-profit Western Governors University, [ www.wgu.edu ], has launched a new scholarship program aimed at helping members of Native American communities earn a college degree thanks to a $150,000 contribution from the AT&T Foundation. The program will offer 30 scholarships, valued at up to $5,000 each, to Native Americans and their spouses living in 19 U.S. states as well as individuals who are working to make an impact in Native American communities.

Western Governors University offers more than 50 accredited bachelor's, master's, and post-baccalaureate [ online degree ] programs in Business, Information Technology, Teacher Education, and Healthcare, including Nursing. WGU's online, competency-based academic model is designed for adult learners who are motivated to continue their education.

Scholarships will be awarded at the rate of $1,000 per six-month term, renewable for up to five terms. To be eligible, applicants must be a member or spouse of a member of a Native American tribe or must live and/or work in a Native American community in one of the following states:

All WGU undergraduate and graduate programs are eligible. Applicants must be new students who have been admitted to the university, be able to demonstrate financial need, and submit a written essay that expresses their hope to impact their Native American community.
