EDEN PRAIRIE, MN--(Marketwire - November 24, 2009) - Compellent Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: [ CML ]) today announced its customer, [ Alvarado Independent School District ] (ISD), received an InfoWorld 100 Award for its use of the [ Compellent storage area network (SAN) ] as the foundation for digital learning initiatives and comprehensive disaster recovery solution to protect critical data for area school districts. Each of the schools in the consortium stores its primary data on a Compellent SAN and then uses Compellent technology to replicate to another district's Compellent SAN, allowing each school district the security of a remote location at a fraction of the cost.

Each year the InfoWorld 100 Awards recognize the 100 most innovative uses of IT initiatives to further business goals and organizations are awarded based on the excellence and quality of the IT environment.

"Alvarado ISD's use of the Compellent SAN continues to be one of the most forward-thinking and progressive implementations of our enterprise storage solution. We're excited to be the storage platform that cost effectively helps enrich the experience for the students in the Alvarado school district," said Bruce Kornfeld, vice president of marketing, Compellent. "Alvarado's disaster recovery consortium demonstrates that organizations with any size budget can implement comprehensive disaster recovery with the Compellent SAN."

With its legacy storage infrastructure physically spread out over 96 square miles and data management and administration issues mounting, Alvarado ISD needed a centralized, cost-effective solution that could protect student data. Coupled with the district's goal of being one of the most technologically advanced in the country, Kyle Berger, Alvarado's executive director of technology services, knew that his classrooms required a more scalable and fluid storage foundation to support digital projectors, smart blackboard technologies and school-issued laptops. Berger worked with Compellent channel partner [ EST Group ] to implement the Compellent SAN and utilized [ automated tiered storage ], [ thin replication ] and [ space-efficient snapshots ] to create a scalable storage infrastructure with disaster recovery built in.

"We have taken great lengths at Alvarado ISD to make sure each of our students, from kindergarten through high school, have the technologies they need to effectively learn and grow as individuals, and the storage foundation for those technologies is the Compellent SAN," said Kyle Berger. "We're very proud to be recognized by InfoWorld for the implementation of our learning initiatives, our disaster recovery solution and our fluid management of student and administrative data."

Companies around the world rely on technology to enable and enhance their business operations and deliver on their business strategies. "This year's recipients of InfoWorld's highest honor are shining examples of IT projects undertaken by tech leaders committed to pushing their organizations forward," said Jason Snyder, features editor, InfoWorld.
