Network Equipment Technologies: Network Equipment Technologies Announces General Availability of VXe Release for Its VX Series
FREMONT, CA--(Marketwire - October 21, 2009) - Network Equipment Technologies, Inc. ("NET") (
The availability of VXe's extended unified communications features will provide additional application support for Microsoft Office Communication Server 2007 R2 and provide enhanced value to enterprise voice customers by reducing the total number of servers required in Office Communication Server networks and lowering the operational and capital costs of Office Communication Server 2007 R2 deployments.
"The VXe release is designed to support the adoption of enterprise voice for Microsoft Office Communication Server 2007 R2 customers, providing branch offices with several key features, including: Native DSP support for Microsoft RT-audio; support for meshed, high availability Office Communication Server networks; end to end Quality of Experience (QoE) monitoring; secure, line speed SRTP and TLS encryption; and automatic codec selection for enhanced audio quality," said Talbot Harty, Chief Development Officer. "NET is providing and supporting these features as its own extension to the Microsoft interoperability specification."
The VX with the extended UC features of VXe offers these key advantages:
Simplified Networks and Reduced Costs for Branch Offices The extended UC features of the VXe release reduce the total cost of ownership by reducing server requirements and network management costs. Branch offices and remote sites will have a single device behind the router to provide local telephony network access for Microsoft Office Communication Server networks. Branch Office Voice Availability The NET VX can use its VXe extended UC features and native Microsoft Active Directory integration allows voice service to continue in the event of a WAN outage, providing alternate routing to PSTN, ITSP and SIP Trunking connections. This allows customers to use their mobile phones and existing SIP phones as a backup enterprise voice availability solution.
"With the extended UC features on the VXe version of the product, this increases the value proposition for NET and its customers, and has the possibility of providing an additional boost for Microsoft's Office Communication Server 2007 R2, since cost of ownership and ease of implementation are both significantly improved," said Marty Parker, Principal of UniComm Consulting.
Additional features and benefits of the VX Series voice gateways and VXe extended UC features can be found in white papers available on NET's website.
