CSIR mulls increasing upper age limit for scientists; aspirants still unhappy

A section of researchers have demanded that the upper age limit in scientist jobs should be 40 years or no age limit as many researchers become older than 35 years by the time they complete their PhD
The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in India is considering increasing the upper age limit for candidates applying for scientist positions, following a directive from the Department of Science and Technology (DST) to align with the age limits set by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT). Currently, the age limit for direct recruitment to scientist positions at CSIR is 32 years, but there is a proposal to raise it to 35 years, with potential relaxations for certain categories. Despite this proposed change, many aspirants remain dissatisfied, arguing that the age limit should be further increased to 40 years to account for the time lost due to delays in recruitment processes, educational pursuits, and other personal commitments. They also point out that other government sectors like the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) have higher age limits, suggesting that CSIR should follow suit to attract more experienced candidates.
