Sanjay Malhotra, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer from the 1990 batch, has been appointed as the new Revenue Secretary of India, succeeding Ajay Bhushan Pandey. Born on April 1, 1966, in New Delhi, Malhotra completed his schooling at St. Columba's School and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kanpur. He further pursued an MBA from IIM Bangalore. His career spans significant roles such as Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), where he was instrumental in implementing key tax reforms like the Taxpayers' Charter and Faceless Assessment. Prior to his CBDT role, he served as Additional Secretary in the Department of Revenue, and has held various positions in the Finance Ministry, including Joint Secretary in the Department of Financial Services. Malhotra's expertise also extends to international assignments, having worked with the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. His appointment as Revenue Secretary was effective from November 2023, and he is known for his contributions to policy-making and administrative reforms in the financial sector.
