What We Know About Luigi Mangione, Arrested in Connection with UHC CEO Killing

  • T he suspect arrested in connection with the shooting death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson last week has been identified as Luigi Mangione, a 26-year-old Ivy League graduate from Towson, Maryland. Mangione was taken into custody in Altoona, Penn., on Dec. 9 after he was recognized at a McDonald's and reported to local authorities.

Luigi Mangione, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare Global, was killed in a murder-suicide by his wife, Christine Mangione, in their home in South Carolina. The incident occurred on a Sunday night, and when deputies arrived, they found both Luigi and Christine dead from gunshot wounds. The couple had been married for 30 years and had two adult children. Prior to the event, there were no known issues reported to the authorities about the couple's relationship. The community and colleagues at UnitedHealthcare expressed shock and grief over the tragedy, remembering Luigi as a dedicated leader and a kind person. The investigation into the circumstances leading up to the murder-suicide is ongoing.
