CONCORD, ON, May 18 /CNW/ - RuggedCom Inc. ("RuggedCom") (TSX:RCM), a leading provider of rugged communications networking solutions designed for mission-critical applications in harsh environments, has announced products certified for Rail Applications. The RuggedSwitch(R) RSG2100 and RS900G products have been certified with EN Standard 50121-4 that ensures electromagnetic compatibility among telecommunications equipment.

RuggedCom products are designed with carrier grade networking, management and security features and rail transportation companies can now be confident that these products are certified for use in rail environments. In these environments, high levels of EMI can be present in the same proximity as the communications equipment responsible for directing and controlling rail traffic. Communications equipment must therefore be immune to this EMI at the same time as minimizing internally radiated emissions. The EN50121-4 certification provides customers with the security and knowledge that the same RuggedCom products that provide unsurpassed reliability and product performance also meet the requirements set by the rail industry.

"While the requirements to pass EN50121-4 are stringent, we did not have to make any modifications to our products to acquire the certification," explains Roger Moore, Vice President of Engineering at RuggedCom. "We design all RuggedCom products to meet the highest standards of electromagnetic emissions and immunity which ensures rock solid performance in critical situations and harsh conditions."

As with all RuggedCom products, the RuggedSwitch(R) is RuggedRated(TM) for harsh environments. RuggedRated(TM) products: meet or exceed a wide range of industry standards; provide a high level of immunity to electromagnetic interference and heavy electrical surges; feature a wide operating temperature range of -40 degrees C to +85 degrees C (no fans); can be powered from a variety of sources (12VDC, 24VDC, 48VDC, 88-300VDC/35-264VAC); and have high MTBF and reliability characteristics. In addition, for applications requiring high availability, the RuggedSwitch(R) provides the option for integrated dual redundant power supplies, which have the unique ability to have each power supply fed from different voltage levels and/or sources. All of these features allow the RuggedSwitch(R) products to be placed in almost any location for great installation flexibility.
