SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwire - March 24, 2009) - Cubic Defense Applications, the defense systems subsidiary of Cubic Corporation (NYSE: [ CUB ]), reported a $19 million increase in its indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (ID/IQ) contract to supply components and technical support for the U.S. Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (Joint STARS), a major system in contemporary warfare.

The Logistics Readiness Center, part of the U.S. Army Communications and Electronics Command, has placed $4 million in orders to date under the new $19 million ID/IQ allocation, and Cubic anticipates additional orders this year. The orders are for both Joint STARS Ground Data Terminals and technical support services. Cubic is scheduled to deliver its first shipment of hardware in fall 2009 and complete deliveries by January 2010. Cubic is also under contract to deliver technical services.

Cubic also announced that it is engaged in a separate internal research and development effort to create a new wider bandwidth data link system to meet the growing information demands for the battle-proven intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance platform.

The Surveillance and Control Data Link (SCDL) system is a component of Joint STARS. Cubic delivered its first Joint STARS data link in 1987, and since then the system has helped save many lives in the Persian Gulf War, Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan. The data link enables air-to-ground and ground-to-air transmission of data. It is an effective system, and Cubic is committed to making it even more powerful. The SCDL is doing an outstanding job in a tough environment.

Cubic Defense Applications, Inc. is part of Cubic Corporation's defense segment. Cubic is a world leader in realistic combat training systems, mission support services and defense electronics. The corporation's other major segment, Cubic Transportation Systems, designs and manufactures automatic fare collection systems for public mass transit authorities.
