South Korea is actively participating in the global race to develop low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite communications, aiming to enhance its space technology capabilities. The country's Ministry of Science and ICT has announced plans to launch a satellite constellation by 2027, which will provide high-speed internet services globally. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to secure a competitive edge in the burgeoning space economy, driven by the increasing demand for satellite internet services. South Korea's efforts include collaborations with domestic companies like Hanwha Systems and international partnerships to develop and deploy these satellites. The project not only seeks to provide internet access but also to support various applications like IoT, autonomous driving, and emergency communications, positioning South Korea as a key player in the next generation of space-based internet services.
